This collection is inspired by this high-fashion group of men called “Sapeurs”. They emerged out of a movement in Congo called la SAPE, which stands for “La Societé des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes” meaning in english : The Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People,”
“La sape” can be traced back to the period of colonialism in Africa, and in particular Brazzaville and Kinshasa.
Young Congolese men took the style of their masters’ and made it their own : colorful bold and excentric. The only rule is to stand out.
The sapeurs of Congo are the world unlikeliest fashionistas. Ordinary working men wearing elegant sharp attire and creating flamboyant identities for themselves through their brightly colored suits, and luxurious swagger.
The mix of oriental and gypsy influence with the sapeurs spirit, creates a bold and colorful collection.
In this collection, it’s all about mixing prints, colors, and textures to represent the sapeurs freedom of expression.
